This Valentine’s Day, February 14th, instead of giving flowers and chocolates, give books instead! I truly love the idea of giving books whether it’s for World Book Night, All Hallow’s Read, or just because. So, I’m very excited to share International Book Giving Day.

Basically, “International Book Giving Day is a day dedicated to getting new, used and borrowed books in the hands of as many children as possible… aimed at increasing children’s access to and enthusiasm for books.”

There are three simple things you can do to celebrate this event.
1. Give a book.
2. Leave a Book in a Waiting Room or Lobby. (Or, anywhere, really, that wouldn’t be considered littering and some kid can come across without difficulty.)
3. Donate a Book. (Either at your local library or favorite literary non-profit.)

I also love the suggestions for organizing events- including book swaps, races, and Beers for Books nights! The possibilities are endless. And the rewards of giving the gift of reading are priceless!
