I have to keep this short since Downton Abbey is almost on!

These are the books I read:

-Hereville: How Mirka Met a Meteorite by Barry Deutsch [*]- I’m so glad I immediately got my hands on the sequel to “Hereville: How Mirka Got Her Sword!” While I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first, I definitely will keep on reading these books. I already can’t wait for more!

-Wanda Witch and the Bullies by Rose Impey, Illustrated by Katherine McEwen
-Wanda Witch and the Wobbly Fang by Rose Impey, Illustrated by Katherine McEwen
-Wanda Witch and Too Many Frogs by Rose Impey, Illustrated by Katherine McEwen
-Wanda Witch and the Stray Dragon by Rose Impey, Illustrated by Katherine McEwen
There are so many things wrong with this series. Not all books have to teach a lesson, of course, but this one seemed to be trying to do so but failed either by not providing one or teaching the wrong lesson. It also seemed the US publication of the books were out of order. [X] [A to Z Picture Book Series Reading Challenge]

-Dodsworth in New York by Tim Egan
-Dodsworth in Paris by Tim Egan
-Dodsworth in London by Tim Egan
-Dodsworth in Rome by Tim Egan
I love the serialized aspects of these books. Sometimes the duck gets on my nerve but he is a likable character when he’s not purposely trying to be difficult. Kids will enjoy how the different personalities play off one another. [*- My Pick of the Week] [A to Z Picture Book Series Reading Challenge]

I only need to find authors whose last names begin with Q and X and who have written a series of 3 or more picture books (or early readers) to complete my A to Z Picture Book Reading Challenge! Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Here’s a shelftalker I made for Hachiko which I read last week.

I posted my 2013 Reading Challenges (as well as a recap of some older ones) earlier this week.

I’m working on a post about Stephen Savage and his visit to our store. It’ll be up later in the week.

I picked up “Castle Waiting” by Linda Medley off the library Staff Picks. I’m hoping to finish “Ten Little Indians” this week.

Happy Reading!

I adore the Mirka books. I love how they show a spunky girl from a culture that I’m not as familiar with. I love her, and how the creator weaves reality and fantasy together.

That Sheftalker is so stinkin’ cute and creative! I haven’t made any for my library but I’ve heard how well they work. I might just have to get on the ball :) Lovely picture!

I don’t know that “Wanda” series, but I do love the Dodsworth books. A fun character to help introduce far off cities to kids. Your Savage visit sounded fun! I too always love when authors/illustrators talk about the creative process.

I like the Hachiko artwork. Thanks for being so candid with your reviews, Earl. Not familiar with the Wanda series, but I also don’t enjoy books that seem intent on providing pedantic advice on what not to do. :) Haven’t caught up with the Downton Abbey series yet. :(
