This week I’m celebrating all readers and book lovers.
What a great week it was indeed with the Youth Media Awards! There’s not a lot of things that’s going to make me want to wake up at 5am willingly but I wanted to watch the live announcements. Hearing the excitement from the audience were wonderful. And, if other viewers were like me, they were clapping when favorite titles won.
That morning continued with a work breakfast with my boss who had just gotten back from the American Booksellers Association’s Winter Institute. Over coffee and German pancakes, we talked about the surprises of the book awards. None of our picks won! We also discussed some exciting things we’ll be doing in the bookstore in the upcoming months.
I’m also excited that we have a first selection for the book club I’m trying to get going- this year’s Newbery winner Kate DiCamillo’s Flora & Ulysses. Young @ Heart is a children’s literature book club for adults.
What are you celebrating this week?

Your Young @ Heart book club sounds fun! I’m excited about Flora & Ulysses because it reaches into the younger set of readers. I especially love how this is add to our young readers list of books they cherish by DiCamillo.

I was able to watch the live webcast on Monday for the first time due to a 2 hour delay at school. It was very exciting and now I have a bunch of books on reserve at the library to catch up on some reading. Your new book club sounds wonderfully exciting. Have a great week!
