It’s my birthday! If you want to help me celebrate, please consider doing my Commitment to Literacy.

This year’s Commitment to Literacy’s theme is One Book. I‘m inviting everyone to think about: What one book do you think everyone should read- and why? Or, what one book has influenced your life- and how?

Go to your library or bookstore and take a picture of yourself with the book. Send your response to the question(s) and your picture to earldizon [at] gmail.com. For each one I receive, I will donate a book to The Children’s Book Bank.

I will post these entries on this blog throughout the year.

This week, I posted:

Nonfiction Picture Book Challenge Wednesday– Read reviews for the following:

Celebrate This Week: This week I’m celebrating happiness.

Delivering Happiness: A Path to Profits, Passion, and Purpose; A Round Table Comic Paperback by Tony Hsieh, Illustrated by Rob Ten Pas [**]

It was a slow reading week since I’ve been on vacation but I did read the graphic novel adaptation of Delivering Happiness by Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh. I highly enjoyed the book and this format/edition presents the journey and the lessons in a very condensed way. But, it was still an entertaining read. Read the actual book, though!

My vacation book has been John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath which I hope to finish before attending a Classic Literature Book Club in May! Fun Fact: This year marks the 75th anniversary of the book!

Have a great reading week!

Oh, one thing I’ve been wanting to do is to host a Book Giveaway so please stay tuned for that later this week! It’s my One Book I talked about regarding my Commitment to Literacy!

I love your “commitment to literacy” idea. The difficulty is narrowing it down to one book. There are too many good ones. I will think about it though. I’m so glad you had a great birthday week.

Happy Birthday! What an honorable way to celebrate your birthday with a commitment to literacy. Brilliant! Good luck on this project. I was just in BN this week checking out new and interesting titles.

Your Commitment to Literacy is amazing! I’ll pop over and try whether I can come up with just one book 🙂 Not quite sure ‘Delivering Happines’ is something I’d enjoy but I’m happy you liked it!
Thanks for sharing and hosting 🙂 I hope you have a great week!

Happy birthday, and good luck with the Commitment to Literacy. What a great idea.

I have never read The Grapes of Wrath, I’ve been meaning to read more classics and maybe that would be a good one to add to my list… have a great week!

Interesting how many graphic adaptations we are getting. I love adding visuals, and I think it often helps with comprehension!

Some day I hope to go back to classics I read in high school or college to revisit them with a new perspective. Right now I’m dedicated to reading and reviewing children’s and middle grade novels, but some day I’ll get back to grown up books 🙂 Happy birthday!
