Drum Dream Girl: How One Girl's Courage Changed MusicDrum Dream Girl: How One Girl’s Courage Changed Music by Margarita Engle
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was a random read telling the story of a Chinese-African-Cuban girl who defied stereotypes and inspired other girls to follow their dreams. Hers was to play the drums even though others said that was left for boys and men. Told in verse, full of rhythm. Full of lively and vibrant illustrations.

Oh this sounds very nice, Earl. I don’t think I’ve seen it before. Thanks!

Engle truly knows how to write a book-in-verse. I’ll have to find this one as it is new to me–thank you!

I received an advance review copy of this from Margarita while I was in the US. I am hoping to feature it very very soon.
