Primates: The Fearless Science of Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey, and Biruté GaldikasPrimates: The Fearless Science of Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey, and Biruté Galdikas by Jim Ottaviani
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This graphic novel tells the tales of three female primatologists- Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey, and Biruté Galdikas. It shows how they got into this male-dominated field, the challenges they faced, and how their dedication helped them become some of the top names in science. The author’s note mentions the need to condense certain parts to give the three intertwining stories an arc. Highly enjoyable but there were a few panels that were hard to understand.

Walt Whitman: Words For AmericaWalt Whitman: Words For America by Barbara Kerley
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Barbara Kerley and Brian Selznick team up again for another nonfiction picture book biography, this time focusing on Walt Whitman’s life as he becomes the poet of the people and a strong supporter of the troops. Includes extensive author and illustrator notes as well as a selection of poems excerpted in the story proper. Of course, Brian Selznick delivers another visual treat.

Seems like Jane Goodall is a popular person to spotlight these days! I think it’s interesting the graphic novel format has become more and more popular – especially within the different genres!

I saw Primates while browsing for graphic novels the other day. Unfortunately, it’s not available in our online catalog. /sigh But thanks for featuring this! =)
