This week I’m celebrating various little things that made me happy.

Last week I took a Storywalk in Oregon City.

“Storywalk promotes literacy, reading together, and physical fitness. Families and groups are encouraged to participate in this outdoor activity. All are welcome to take a short walk from the Oregon City Library to downtown Oregon City to enjoy the children’s book, If You Take a Mouse to School, posted along the trail.”

What a cool idea to get to know local businesses and landmarks while encouraging reading and exercise! While some of the participating businesses no longer had their pages up on display, it was still fun. I did get lost since I really don’t trust maps!

Portland has a new bridge and it is quite beautiful. The Tilikum Crossing, Bridge of the People is a pedestrian-friendly bridge that doesn’t allow cars or trucks. It does allow the various public transportation vehicles that Portland has to offer. Even though I don’t like heights and get vertigo, I love bridges and can’t resist walking them.

A wonderful thing about this city of readers is that there are words everywhere. It’s so fun to discover poetry in random places.

And then there’s this beautiful Alice in Wonderland mural on the side of an independent bookstore.

Volunteering has continued to be fun. It’s great seeing familiar faces bring new people to the Children’s Book Bank! They motivate me to volunteer more so I can reach my goal of 100 hours by the end of the year. I’m currently at 70.

I also celebrate connecting with family and friends whether through text or social media, over the phone or in person.

My Audio/Video of the Week is this seemingly random commercial of Mariah Carey as the new spokesperson of a mobile video game, Game of War: Fire Age.

What are you celebrating this week?

The storywalk is such a cool idea. La Crosse has a poetry walk downtown. I enjoy walking along and getting a poem every few sidewalk squares. Congrats on the volunteer hours. And thanks so much for the video. I had tears because it struck my funnybone.

Love hearing all about these pieces of your life, Earl: the Storywalk; the new bridge, and that pic of you are wonderful. You must be so appreciated as a volunteer.

A storywalk and volunteering in a Children’s Book Bank. I wonder if Seattle has such a thing. Both sound delightful. Love the mural and poetry in the park. I think it’s about time for a visit to Portland!
