Nonfiction Picture Book Challenge Wednesday: Read my reviews for:

Celebrate This Week Despite all the gloom and doom and bleakness in the news and what’s happening in the world, I found some moments to celebrate! And, read my review for:

Jackaby by William Ritter [***]

I don’t know why I keep reading the BabyLit board books since the novelty has worn off. The appeal that has made them unique and delightful now seem redundant!

What If...? by Anthony Browne [**]- What If tells the story of a boy's anxiety with attending his first party. His mom tries to calm him down as he imagines silly scenarios.

Work: An Occupational ABC by Kellen Hatanaka [**]- Lots of puns in this alphabet book with a brief description of what each job does in the back.

Symphony City by Amy Martin [***]- A girl discovers how music is everywhere and can transform life's dull days to a symphony of sounds. The illustrations are wonderful!

I want to finish reading The Great Green Heist by Varian Johnson before we have our Educator Night at work on Wednesday. Then, I have to read Wings of Fire #1: The Dragonet Prophecy by Tui T. Sutherland (also for work) by next Wednesday’s Family Book Club. Plus, I have 3 other books I’ve started!

Have a great reading week!

  1. I really liked Flashlight. It’s one I need to go back for a reread, I don’t think I got everything the first time around.
I really liked Heist. I had a few issues with it, I’ll be looking forward to your review.
I’ll also be looking for your Wed review. I really like the the 2 series books but the other PB will be new!

  2. Curious as to what you think about Wings of Fire – it started making its way around the boys in my room right at the end of the year.

  3. I haven’t seen the BabyLit Board books–will have to look at one to see what it’s all about. The covers do appeal to me. Heist is in my stack… along with 5 million other books. But I would like to get to it soon so that I can booktalk in my classes.

  4. I hadn’t heard of Jackaby, and the cover is so enticing. I love creepy books like this. I’ll have to add it to my list. Thank you for sharing!

  5. I like pun-filled ABCs, so will be on the lookout for this unique title. Anthony Browne is a favourite – this particular title that you shared has a wistful element to it, and a very surreal-nightly quality – I read it a few months back. Symphony City looks great too, thanks for sharing! 🙂
